The 16th Life Cycle Engineering Conference LCE 2009 continues a long tradition of scientific meetings under the aegis of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP). For many years extensive research in life cycle assessment, product development and sustainable manufacturing has produced a vast pool of knowledge, the application of which is still hampered by reluctant implementation of serious environmental strategies in practice. A recent boost in global environmental awareness now offers a unique opportunity to further the application of existing knowledge and accelerate developments towards more sustainable engineering solutions for future industrial products.
The LCE 2009 will be hosted jointly by the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMS) Centre at the University of Windsor and the Scientific Technical Committee “A” of the CIRP. The Conference Theme is: Life Cycle Engineering in the Sustainability Age. The ancient wisdom provides powerful hints for dealing with the paradoxes of sustainability. In "The Origins of Ancient Egypt" Michael Rice writes: "There was a time when, in a small strip of the world’s land surface, man achieved an almost total equilibrium with his environment and created a society as near perfect as he has so far been able even to dream about...". The conference will offer you an international forum for the exchange of ideas in a unique historic setting in Cairo, Egypt.
